Sergio Mella is a pianist and composer born in Santiago, Chile, whose performance and arrangements are framed within the evocative “Easy Listening” style, a musical genre shaped by great performers such as Richard Clayderman and Kenny G.

Career

At the age of 18, he began working for various television programs in Chile as an orchestra musician, where his piano skills led him to accompany internationally renowned artists live, such as Gloria Trevi, Alexandre Pires, Azúcar Moreno, Alex Ubago, Emmanuel, Julio Iglesias, Yuri, Marcos Llunas, Hernaldo Zúñiga, Carlos Vives, Raphael, and Nydia Caro, among others.

Musical Director

In parallel with his work as a pianist and arranger on television, he formed his own orchestra, initially dedicated to the genre of “Salsa,” but over time, it adapted to a variety of styles within Pop.

After participating in multiple events, he began a phase where he was called upon to inaugurate and take charge of shows for the “Casino Enjoy Santiago,” where most national artists performed alongside his orchestra. Among them were: Luis Jara, Pablo Herrera, Juan Antonio Labra, Natalino, Álvaro Scaramelli, Daniela Castillo, Daniel Guerrero (La Sociedad), Patricia Maldonado, José Alfredo Fuentes, Peter Rock, María Jimena Pereyra, José Luis Arce, Leandro Martinez, Marlen Olivari, and Patricia López.

Session Musician

For nearly 7 years, he was on tour with the singer and entertainer Luis Jara, touring practically all the stages in Chile and also some performances in Miami (United States). Additionally, in 2011, he recorded the live album “Luis Jara Vive, Grandes éxitos en concierto” with him at the Teatro Caupolicán.

Since 2012, he has been part of tours with the Chilean band Natalino, where he was later appointed as the live Musical Director. Alongside the group, he has recorded studio albums such as “XIII Confesiones,” several singles, and their live album “Natalino En Vivo” recorded at the Arena Monticello.

In 2023 he begins to perform throughout Chile accompanying the Italian-Swiss singer Paolo Meneguzzi.

Soloist

In 2017, with the support of his manager Nayaret Vera, Sergio embarked on his completely independent music career, achieving recognition as “The most listened Chilean Pianist on Spotify”.

His first single, “Nothing’s Gonna Change my Love For You,” a song popularized by the American singer Glenn Medeiros, quickly gained popularity, being listened to in over 160 countries. This single is part of the album “Piano In Love, songs about memories” released in 2017. The album was mixed and mastered by the Cuban engineer, and Latin Grammy winner, Gerónimo Labrada.

Tribute Bands

The Beatles: With the band “Siempre Beatles,” they were winners of the “First Beatles Week in Chile,” earning a spot to participate at the Latin level in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Additionally, during their time in Buenos Aires, they had the opportunity to meet the British musician Tony Sheridan. At the “Cavern Club” in Buenos Aires, Sergio performed the song “Drive My Car” in an improvised jam session alongside Charly García.

Studies / Teaching

Sergio has studied classical music since the age of 9, and after completing his schooling, he pursued further studies in jazz music. He graduated as an “Instrumental Performer, specializing in Piano” from Projazz Chile.

It is at the same institution where he also receives a teaching degree, enabling him to teach functional piano and music literacy courses within the professional career program.
